Expanding a Prestigious Brand Into New Territory
Tiffany Sparkles in Russia
As TIFFANY expanded into Russia during the last several years, it sought measures to further protect its internationally famous mark. TIFFANY has relied on Fross Zelnick's advice in international matters, such as this, for close to 20 years and thus it was no surprise that it asked the firm to represent the company, along with other brand owners, and the "Coalition for Intellectual Property Rights" to help secure changes in the Russian Federation Law on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin, consistent with international standards. In accordance with the improved legislation that Fross Zelnick helped to put into effect, on June 24, 2006, the TIFFANY mark was declared a famous trademark in the Russian Federation. At the time of the hearing on this matter, there were 55 marks of 32 owners recognized as well-known under the "Russian Federation Rules on Well-Known Marks."
