TIGI Linea Corp., et al. v. Cool Freakin’ Genius LLC

On behalf of our client, TIGI Linea Corp., owner of the well-known Bed Head line of hair products, we secured a preliminary injunction in a trade dress infringement case in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Cool Freakin’ Genius (“CFG”), a new, well-funded haircare brand that had launched months earlier. TIGI’s claims against CFG stem from the 2025 launch of Freakin’ Genius hair products featuring trade dress that was very similar to the distinctive appearance of Bed Head’s hair care products—notably the use of contrasting bright colors, unusually shaped bottles, and provocative names for specific products. In granting our motion for an injunction against CFG, the Court found that our client’s unregistered product packaging trade dresses are “conceptually strong.” Our claims were complicated by the fact that two of the owners of Cool Freakin’ Genius are ex-founders of Bed Head who sold the Bed Head brand to Unilever for hundreds of millions of dollars and then launched Cool Freakin’ Genius shortly after the non-compete expired.
