Craig S. Mende speaks to Managing IP about the US’s new copyright small claims forum

In December 2020, the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act (“CASE Act”) was passed. The law introduces the newly-established Copyright Claims Board (“CCB”) – the first copyright small-claims tribunal in the United States, which will hear copyright cases with actual damages of under $30,000. The U.S. Copyright Office has launched a website for the CCB, which is expected to go live in June. Fross Zelnick’s Craig S. Mende spoke to Managing IP on the pros and cons of using the board, and how law firm counsel have been educating themselves, their colleagues, and their clients on the CASE Act in preparation for its impending launch.
